Q:Does it cost anything to subscribe or listen to this podcast?
A: No! The podcast is completely free, Joan and Ben volunteer their time to produce and co-host each weekly episode. Other educators also volunteer their time, effort, and lessons to share! There is no cost to subscribe, download, or listen to the podcast and lesson files.

Q:The 1 click iTunes button doesn’t work. How can I subscribe for free to the podcast using iTunes?
A:There are two ways that you can subscribe to the podcast through
iTunes if the one click button isn’t working on your computer.
1) Go into the iTunes music store and search for “SMARTBoard”, select
podcasts in the search narrowers and you should see the SMARTBoard
Lesson Podcast as the only result, and the option to subscribe.
2) In iTunes click on your ‘podcasts’ playlist on the left hand side
of the window. Then click the advanced top toolbar heading. In the
drop down menu, click the “Subscribe to podcast…” option. A window
will appear. In that window paste this url in:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/SmartboardLessonsPodcast and click ok.
This will subscribe you.

Q: The SMART Notebook files won’t open. Help!
A: Make sure you have the most recent version of the SMARTBoard software (it is a full and free version).
http://smarttech.com/support/software/index.asp
May the file required SMART Ideas. Download a trial copy of that software.
http://smartideas.com
Also if the file is a SMARTNotebook format file and the file saves as a .zip file: The file should save as a filename.notebook file (with the .notebook extension). If this isn’t happening, try renaming the file with a .notebook extension and opening from within SMARTNotebook. Sometimes the files save as .zip files.

Q: The SMART Ideas files are unzipped into multiple folders when I try to open them. Why?
A: The Smart Ideas files will show up as zip files but ARE NOT zipped. Launch SMART Ideas. From within this appplication select file menu, then open. Navigate to the location of the downloaded file and open the item this way.

Q:When I download the SMART Notebook files using Safari it doesn’t allow me to open the file. What is going on?
A: Safari, the internet browser on the Macintosh computer systems, corrupts the SMART Notebook files. Try using the Firefox web browser instead.

Q:I want to start podcasting. Any suggestions on how to begin?
A: Are you on a PC (Windows or Linux) or a Mac? If you are on a Mac - go to Garageband - free on each Mac and record a podcast. Share to iTunes and upload to the net via iWeb.
If you have a PC (Windows or Linux):1) Download Audacity to record audio:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ - the place to download this free program.
A great ‘quick start’ guide is at: http://lss.wisc.edu/~doug/audacity/audacity_guide_3_05.doc
2) Get a microphone (preferably a USB Mic - better sound) that connects to the microphone jack on your computer or the USB port.
3) Record away in Audacity and output it as an mp3.
4) upload it onto a school webpage & put the link to the mp3 file in a blog (blogger.com)
5) submit the ‘rss’ feed of this blog to iTunes
6) Students can then download the audio automatically. To make a new podcast just follow steps 1 through 4 (5&6 are now automatic).
If you want to do phone interviews (like we did today).
1) Download & install skype - will let you make computer to computer phone calls & also calls to phones
www.skype.com
2) Then download and install a program that will record the call:
