So I had to listen to the podcast in a bit more timely manner on this one since it had my name in it ;). It also reminded me to upload the file I had talked about. (Top of the wiki page - http://gesdmath.wikispaces.com/chp5 )
I don’t have the math operation added in because we use it to review all operations.
Now I have to comment on the twitter debate. I agree with both of you that I don’t get it yet. I don’t see the audience of my class blog being interested in me writing about what we’re doing every few minutes.
I’ve tried something a little different that you two might be interested in. I have a program running while we’re using the SmartBoard that takes a screen capture every 3 minutes, ftp’s it to the web, then I link to it in my blog. http://mrwilliams.edublogs.org/desktop I’m using a program called MyDesktopOnline ( http://www.chriskarcher.net/index.php?link=projects&project=mydesktop ), and unfortunately it’s only for PC’s. I don’t use a mac, so I don’t know if there is anything comparable that is available.

Regarding the conversation about IWBs:
In my district we have standardized on the SMARTBoard brand of IWB. Having one brand is far easier from a PD standpoint, sharing of files, etc. When I train in-district, I talk about and use all of the SMART specific terms.
Whenever I present at a conference or some other venue, I always make it clear that our district uses SMART, but it is only one of many IWB manufacturers. I do everything to steer away from the “this vs. that” comparison, and keep focused on the value of IWBs in the classroom, no matter what the manufacturer. The educational use is the key, no matter what decisions drive what a district may choose to purchase.
I really like the analogy of car manufacturer vs. gas station - but IWBs are not nearly as ubiquitous yet, and until the market demand for IWBs screams for gas staions on every corner, and the gas can be used in any car, we will be in the typical technology “stronghold” of the manufacturer driving the standard.
As far as other IWB manufacturers not adopting the .notebook format - does SMART release that code so it could be adopted?
Thanks for a great podcast - super conversation and ideas!
