Our Roundtable:

  • Ben and Joan host a round table discussion about SMARTBoard use with Chris Betcher from Australia and Tom Barrett from the United Kingdom. We discuss:
    1) Is there a SMARTBoard/iwb pedagogy?
    2) Does SMARTBoard/iwb uncover or amplify other pedagogies? What does it show and when?
    3) What does effective SMARTBoard/iwb usage look like?
    4) What is the next step for SMARTBoard/iwb usage for: a beginning user, an intermediate user, an advanced user?

I concur with Chris with his “anti-whiteboard” initial feelings as we recently installed some in a school in Australia and I have seen a similar thing here. (Whiteboard roundtable)

Some teachers are really blossoming and feel that it has changed their teaching and more importantly their students learning. Others have identified that they themselves are not suing the IWB as interactive, student centered learning tool.

I am working on a project to help teacher educators start using an IWB to model effective IWB use for pre-service teachers. Would you suggest a similar roundtable format to get them on board (literally) and connected?
